Computer Networks: A network consists of two or more computers that are linked together in order to share data, exchange files, audio or video and establish an electronic communication between them is known as computer network.

1. PAN (Personal Area Network)

PAN is stand for personal area network.it is smallest and most most basic type of computer network used for data transmission amongst devices such as computers, mobile phones, tablets and other personal digital assistants. it may be work on wireless modem or also it works on wired communication technology such as USB Buses etc. it revolves around one person in one building. PAN can be managed by one person or a organization from a single device.

2.LAN (Local Area Network)

LAN is stand for Local Area Network is a computer network covering small geographical area .LAN connects groups of computers and low voltage devices together across short distance within a building or between group of two of three buildings.it is a wired network communication.

3.WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network)

WLAN stand for wireless local area network.it is the extended version of LAN if we use wireless technology with local area network then it becomes WLAN. it same work as LAN . in WLAN it is not necessary that devices are physically connected with wires.

4.CAN (Campus Area Network)

CAN stands for campus area network .it generally seen in Universities, Government organization campus and schools.it is most secure towards security purpose they are spread across several buildings they are fairly close to each others. CAN can join two or more LANs together.

5.MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)

MAN stands for Metropolitan area network .it is larger than CAN but smaller than WAN(we discuss it later).MAN is the large computer network usually spanning a city. MAN can connect city to city, town to town . it is a high speed network. They use wireless communication infrastructure or optical fiber connection to link their sites.

6.SAN (System Area Network)

             

SAN stands for system area network .they are also known as cluster area network which connects high performance computers with high speed connections in cluster configurations. They usually connects servers to servers ,processors to processors and computers clusters. they are high performance able and connection oriented

7.WAN (Wide Area Network)

            

WAN stands for wide area network .WAN is network which connects large geographical area or all over the world.it can also connect several smalls networks including LANs together. The most significant example of WAN in current era is INTERNET inter connected network of all the web server world wide.

8.VPN (Virtual Private Network)

               

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network .virtual private network is a type of private network which use public telecommunication such as INTERNET ,instead of leased lines to communicate.it become popular as more employees worked in remote locations .with the help of VPN you can connect to different countries servers sitting in other country.
